Site help
This website should be compatible with most web browsers and should be simple to use and fast to download. If you are familiar with your web browser you should find the site easy to use. As well the the standard text-based links you will find that:
- Clicking on the banner at the top of the page can be used to return to the home page
- Clicking on a photo will often bring up a larger version of it
Some of the articles from The Antiquary have had links inserted (which were, obviously, not available when the articles were written). These are placed in paragraphs that are right justified, in italic and between square brackets. The original authors should not be considered in any way responsible for the relevance of these links or any mistakes made.
If you have any difficulties with this site or you have a suggestion for improving it please e-mail us:website@bradfordhistorical.org.uk

For the more technically minded...
We took the following decisions to maintain compatability across the widest possible range of browsers and platforms and to make the site as easy to access for as wide a range of users as possible.
- There are no browser-specific codes in the HTML (you don't need Microsoft Internet Explorer): the HTML code conforms to the XHTML 1.1 standard and uses standard CSS for formatting
- There are no frames
- There are no links that are solely dependent on images
- Link colours are not messed around with, links appear just as the user has set them on their browser. Similarly, we don't set specific fonts, we leave that up to you and your browser.
- We have a pastel-coloured background to reduce the contrast for easier reading; the column width is also kept fairly narrow to make it easier to read.
The following tools are used in the construction and maintenance of the website:
- Text is edited with Joe and NEdit
- Images are edited with The GIMP
- Site content is managed with CASM
- Firefox, Dillo and Elinks are used to preview the website. (Dillo, into the bargain, also provides excellent syntax checking.)
All the above are free software and run on a GNU/Linux system.
