Catherine Thackray was formerly a social worker, teacher and magistrate. She obtained an Open University degree during retirement and is now editor of the Yorkshire Family Historian, the newsletter of the Family History section of the Yorkshire Archaeological Society. Her affection for Bradford stems from a week's residence at Tong Hall in 1944, when she was a member of the A.T.S.

Brunswick Place - Bradford

George Redmonds was formerly a lecturer in Modern Languages, but for the last eleven years has been self-employed as a local historian. He has contributed regularly to newspapers and journals and is active as a tutor in adult education. He was the founding editor of the local history magazine, Old West Riding, and has written a number of books on surnames, placenames and aspects of local history in West Yorkshire.

Clement Richardson was appointed Visiting Fellow, Bradford University, upon retirement as Senior Lecturer in September 1985, a post he held for nine years. He is well known as the author of A Geography of Bradford (now unfortunately out of print), and for his studies on Irish settlement in Bradford, which appeared in Yorkshire Bulletin and the Bradford Antiquary (Pt. 45, 1971).

Clearing The Air

George Sheeran has recently carried out a program of research at Braford University in connection with the city's vernacular architecture. He is an adult education tutor and has contributed to various periodicals on architectural subjects. He advised the National trust on the revision of the guide book for East Riddlesden Hall and is the author of Village to Mill Town - Shipley 1600-1870 (Bradford Libraries, 1984)

Robert B. Perks graduated in History at Huddersfield Polytechnic where he continued as a research assistant, being awarded a PhD in 1985. He is at present Project Co-ordinator, Bradford heritage Recording Unit, where he supervised the establishment of Bradford's first Oral History and Photographic Archive. He is editor of On and off the Record the quarterly magazine of oral history in Yorkshire/Pennine Area.

'Everone has a Story to Tell'

Cyril Metcalfe was born in Bradford and educated at Hanson School and Leeds University, where he gained a degree in History. After army service he held teaching posts at Sowerby Bridge and Hanson Grammar Schools. In retirement he has specialised in the study of local history.
